Effects of P.E. Film Mulching , Sulphur Application and Different Levels of Nitrogen and Potassium on Growth , Flower - Stalk Elongation , Bulbing , and Leaf Tip Yellowing of Garlic , Allium sativum L. cv . Euisung

Abstract
Influences of polyethylene(P.E.) film mulch, various sources of sulphur, and different levels of nitrogen and potassium on growth and bulb development were examined at field for 4 years from 1982 to 1986.
1. Growth of plants, bulb weight, the number of cloves per bulb, the rate of secondary growth and bulb cracking were significantly increased by P.E. mulch. Bulb formation, maturing and senescence were also accelerated in the mulch plots. Shortened or abnormal flower stalks are more increased in mulch plots than that of the control (bare soil). Those symptoms were not reduced by application of S, Cu, Zn or K.
2. The duration of mulch which was covered after sowing and removed at the beginning of April seemed to be the most appropriate time.
3. The supply of some different sources of sulphur was not influenced on the yellowing of leaf tips and bulb yield.
4. In the plots of potassium sulfate and copper sulfate application, the rate of bulb cracking was declined, but its effect nullified by mulch.
5. The fertilization of tow times nitrogen (40kg/l0a) for control was not affected on the bulb yield and yellowing of leaf tips of garlic plants.
